DISTURBING THE PEACE
In California and some other states, holding a cellphone while driving is now illegal. Texting will be the next to go. It seems to me that these are good laws. Remember when the only thing we used do when we were in the car was drive? On a long drive recently, I silenced my phone and did just that: drove. It was actually quite peaceful.
There are so many potential distractions in our lives and all around us that it can often be difficult to settle down our body and our brain. It is almost as if we are made to feel guilty by others if we're not multi-tasking. Even our own mind can get confused if we're not worrying about several issues at once. But just like rest rejuvenates the body, calming the mind can create a whole new atmosphere, usually accompanied by different perspectives.
Isaiah 26 in The Living Bible says God will help us with it: "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you. Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock."
If we choose to give undivided attention to the One who is unchanged, all of our efforts will be united and we'll be unstoppable.
Focus is a powerful force. (Re)Learning how to focus on one thing at a time will help us to find peace and (BE)TTER.
